Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a concept that has been around for 20 years and is growing in popularity. It is an agreement between the farmer and customers to share in both the risks and rewards of a growing season. The customer agrees to a predetermined payment prior to the growing season that will cover the cost of produce with a profit for the growing season. The farmer agrees to use the best agricultural methods to encourage a bountiful harvest to be distributed to customers throughout the growing season. This arrangement assures the farmer a stable base of customers for produce for the season and the customer has a source of locally grown produce with the knowledge of both the farmer and growing practices. The customer has direct access to the farmer and therefore has more input to the process of growing food for the family.
